Sasmung Galaxy SIII – 9 million preorders and counting

Samsung’s Galaxy S III flagship was almost certain to continue the success of its predecessor but if early pre order figures are accurate, the Galaxy SIII could blow even the stiffest competition out of the water. An unnamed Samsung official is quoted in the Korea Times as saying that Samsung’s latest smash hit has amassed nearly 9 million preorders across 100 carriers around the world.

Samsung’s Galaxy SII, which won the prestigious “Phone of the Year” award last year, took ten months to ship 20 million units, whilst the latest one has reached that milestone in two weeks since its announcement. Whilst the Galaxy SII figures counted shipments (and excess stock in warehouses, distributors etc), the Galaxy SIII figures count pre-orders which are almost as good as actual sales figures.

The key thing here is that these Galaxy SIII figures Do not include Apple’s home market in the USA, which also happens to be one of the biggest markets globally and key to any manufacturer’s success. Whichever way you look at it, Samsung have another smash hit on their hands and the competition definitely have something to worry about.

Apple holds 7.9% of global mobile phone market

Samsung may be reaping the rewards from its multiple Galaxy product ranges, but Apple is showing that the world can be dominated with just a few products. Latest research from Gartner shows that Apple has gained 7.9% market share of the entire global phone sales market, despite only have three iPhones on sale. The research firmly pegs Apple in third place behind Nokia and Samsung.

Total sales of mobile phones are down on last year, but smartphones continue to rise as more people choose smartphones over featurephones. Gartner also warns that whilst Apple’s iOS (and Windows Phone) offer different experiences, devices running on the Android platform would struggle to differentiate going forward with the main differential being price, especially in the mid-range.

“This is particularly true for smartphones based on the Android OS, where a strong commoditization trend is at work and most players are finding it hard to break the mould.”

Pink Samsung Galaxy Note Headed for Carphone Warehouse

Checking Carphone Warehouse’s coming soon page today reveals something bright and looking very similar to a Galaxy.

The Pink Samsung Galaxy Note has appeared on the Carphone Warehouse’s page today with an expected date of June 2012.

The Pink version includes the same benefits of its more sombre siblings with a 5.3 inch screen with HD Super AMOLED technology, an 8 megapixel camera and spring Androids 2.3 Gingerbread.

Samsung’s Olympic Phone The First of Many

Samsung’s recently announced Olympic phone the Galaxy SIII may not be the only official smartphone for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

A report uncovers a new patent filed by the Korean owners for a handful of new titles. The report suggest they could be new devices registered for the future. Names include the Galaxy Lunge, Galaxy Forge, Galaxy Wield, Galaxy Mission, Galaxy Rivet and the Galaxy Victory.

It is likely the the Galaxy Victory and the Galaxy Lung may have an Olympic tie-in. Samsung will be releasing special editions of the Samsung Galaxy SIII with exclusive Olympic content for certain contenders who are taking part in the Olympics.

The Olympics are not too far away so we would expect that any further news on new devices would not be too long in coming forth. We at UK Mobile Review can certainly see a case for the traditional RED or Samsung’s love of Fuscia to make an appearance or even the possibility of colours to match the olympic circle of rings.

Apple iPhone 6 to Increase in Size

Latest reports suggest that Apple’s new iPhone 6 could arrive with a 4-inch display.

Apple has kept the same 3.5 screen though out its iPhone family and some would say that it is time for a change. Larger smartphones are arriving everyday with the likes of HTC One series, Samsung Galaxy SIII and Nokia’s new windows phone, the Lumia 900.

The report from the Wall Street Journal cites sources who say Apple has placed the new sized screen under order. A 4-inch screen from Apple would still be undersized in comparison with the 4.7 inch of the HTC One X and Samsung’s Galaxy S3 at 4.8-inch.

Here we have an unboxing of the forthcoming Galaxy S3. Samsung’s newest device is compared in size to the HTC One X, the Galaxy Note, the HTC One S and also the Galaxy Nexus.

Please do note that the video is not in English but it gives you an idea of the packing of the Galaxy S3 will contain and how it matches up to the other smartphones on offer. I am rather envious of all the devices the reviewer has on hand but it does make a lovely line-up.

Mobile apps research shows most people spend little to nothing

Latest research from ABI Research shows that the majority of users spend little to nothing on mobile apps, with more than 70% of users spending less than $7.50 per month. The research also found that the top 3% of spenders accounted for nearly 20% of all revenue generated.

“The median amount among the consumers who spend money on apps is much lower than the average, just $7.50 per month,” senior analyst Aapo Markkanen said. “This reflects the disproportionate role of big spenders as a revenue source.”

The research also found that the apps that generated the most revenue were often utility apps targetted at business professionals or iOS games with in-app purchases, as Apple discovered.

Whilst the research concerns the US market, it can be applied to app revenue generation globally and although not accurate, it can provide an indication of app revenues worldwide.

3% of Users Account for One-Fifth of All Money Spent on Mobile Apps

LONDON – May 14, 2012
?According to a US consumer survey conducted by ABI Research, about two-thirds of app users have spent money on an application on at least one occasion. Among these paying users, the mean spend was $14 per month. Behind the seemingly high average amount there are, however, some striking findings.

Senior analyst Aapo Markkanen explains, “The median amount among the consumers who spend money on apps is much lower than the average, just $7.50 per month. This reflects the disproportionate role of big spenders as a revenue source. The highest-spending 3% of all app users account for nearly 20% of the total spend, while over 70% spends either nothing or very little.”

The numbers also reflect certain trends in different app categories. Thus far, the releases that have best succeeded in making money have typically been utility apps often used for business purposes, or iOS games monetized through strings of in-app purchases. In both cases the money comes from a remarkably small base of customers. Is there anything developers can do to boost the conversion rate from free to premium?

Markkanen has two recommendations. “First, don’t get obsessed by mobile and apps, but remember also the web,” he adds. “Most of the successful app concepts either support, or are supported by, a web component. Second, see your product through a long-term lens, asking yourself what could convince your customers to still engage with the app in two years’ time. Evernote, for example, has excelled at both. It has skillfully combined the web and the mobile, and at the same time it has also managed to become a habit for many of its users. It demonstrates that the longer its customers stick around with a free version of an app, the likelier they’re going to convert to its premium version.”

Google to sell multiple Nexus branded devices later this year

Traditionally Google has only launched one Nexus branded handset per year, following the lead of Apple, but that could be set to change according to the Wall Street Journal. WSJ report that Google is planning a much bigger roll out of Nexus branded handsets this year with up to 5 manufacturers, including Motorola who are being purchased by Google, all launching Nexus branded stock Android smartphones.

Why is Google planning this? To ease growing unrest over the company’s planned acquisition of Motorola which Google partners believe could give the company unfair favouritism. Google is also hoping that the launch of a range of Nexus branded stock Android devices would mean that the hardware OEMs differentiate against each other based purely on hardware, and not the current hardware/UI differentiation status quo.

Google is also hoping that offering multiple manufacturers early access to the latest Android build will represent faster updates for non-Nexus devices and the WSJ also comments that Google could look to enforce the pure Android platform on all Android devices as the use of custom UIs often leads to slower updates and a poorer experience.

Google’s plan of attack isn’t exclusive to mobile smartphones either as the company could use the same concept to relaunch Android tablets. The new Nexus branded handsets would be sold directly through Google’s online store, network-free, unlocked and at a full price.

Samsung’s Galaxy S III smartphone is set for release later in just a few days and having already seen the official Galaxy S III accessories in picture, it’s time to turn our attention to the hands on videos.

T-Mobile announce Galaxy S3 pricing

T-Mobile have revealed their pricing for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S3 flagship smartphone, also announcing they will have the device in stock at the end of this month.

The Galaxy S3 will launch on the company’s Full Monty price plan, which offers unlimited texts, data and T-Mobile calls alongside 2000 minutes to other network providers for £36 per month. The Galaxy S3 will cost £49 upfront on that plan.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 now just £199

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, the successor to the company’s original Galaxy Tab (and indeed first Android tablet) is now available in the UK for just £199 through retailer Carphone Warehouse. The silver variant of the device is available now, whilst the White version will launch on May 18th.

Your hard-earned money will get you a WiFi only Android tablet running the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with 8GB internal memory. The device also features Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 also features a 7inch touchscreen with 1024×600 pixels resolution, 1GB RAM, 3 megapixel rear camera, front-facing video call camera, an array of connectivity options and a 4,000 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy S III accessories images revealed

Samsung have created a range of official accessories for their newest flagship Galaxy S III smartphones and here’s a look at the accessories, which had until now been mostly kept under lock and key.

First up is the flip cover for the Galaxy S III, which aims to act similar to the cover for the Galaxy Note, offering up protection for the display in a small flip form factor. Samsung has also come up with a WiFi display hub, which allows you to wirelessly transmit anything on your screen to a HDMI-compatible TV.

Other official accessories include a dual-purpose charger that allows you to charge both your device and a spare battery from one compact unit and the aforementioned flip cover which works by replacing the back cover on your existing device with the new one attached to a flap that sits atop your device’s display.

Samsung GT-i9500 Fraser Tizen OS smartphone

Samsung has been distributing developer devices (similar to RIM) at the Tizen conference and codenamed the GT-i9500 Fraser, the smartphone runs a developer build of the upcoming open-sourced Tizen platform.

Tizen, which gains its roots from MeeGo (think Nokia N9) and other Linux-based operating systems, has been backed by Samsung and many other companies and the Samsung Fraser is designed to assist development for the platform.

The specs of the device are:

Apple accuses Samsung of destroying evidence

Apple’s patent lawsuit fight with Samsung took a fresh twist today with Cupertino-based Apple accusing the Korean manufacturer of destroying crucial evidence in their own going drama.Network World reports that the evidence was documentation that Samsung had been ordered to hand over to Apple.

Apple said Samsung’s actions amounted to a Spoliation of evidence and that Samsung destroyed “vast quantities of relevant evidence in blatant disregard of its duty to preserve all such evidence.” Network World claim to have gained a copy of Apple’s motion, which was filed with the Northern District Court of California on May 1st.

According to the report, Apple claim that Samsung witnesses intentionally produced less documents than required under the original court ruling and Apple apparently said in the motion:

“Samsung’s ad hoc, unmonitored email ‘preservation’ methods have resulted in the irretrievable loss of unknown volumes of relevant emails. For example, Judge Grewal recently compelled the deposition of Won Pyo Hong, the head of Samsung’s Product Strategy Team, in part due to an email in which Dr.Hong ‘directly orders side-by-side comparisons of Apple and Samsung products for design presentations.’

“Apple and the Court cannot possibly know how many more emails Dr. Hong sent or received that would have supported Apple’s claims that Samsung copied Apple products had they not been deleted,” Apple continued.

The court is planning a hearing on June 7th to discuss Apple’s allegations but has given Samsung until May 15th to respond to the claims. Samsung has already asked for an extension due to time constraints, which Apple has already said shouldn’t be given. This one looks set to go all the way and we’ll bring you the news as it breaks!

Samsung Omnia M Windows Phone announced

It’s not the rumoured Apollo Galaxy SIII but Samsung have just announced another Windows Phone device, this one running on Mango. The Omnia M features a 4.0 inch Super AMOLED display, 1GHz processor and 5 megapixel camera.

Here’s the key specs:

4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) Super AMOLED display
Windows Phone 7.5 Mango
1 GHz Processor
5 MP Auto focus camera with LED Flash, VGA front-facing video call camera
3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v 2.1,

384MB RAM, 4GB Internal Memory
1500 mAh Li-on battery

Samsung Omnia M also comes equipped with Samsung AllShare (to play media directly from your Omnia M to a TV), Samsung’s cloud services (no mention of S-Cloud though) and Windows Phone People Hub which collates all your social accounts into one hub.

Looking at the specs, the Omnia M is definitely a low-end device but may struggle, even against the likes of the Nokia Lumia 710 which features a better specs list and is available for super cheap. The Omnia M will make its debut in Europe, but a release date and pricing are as yet unknown.

Vodafone launches Galaxy S3 pre-orders, 2GB data included

Vodafone has joined the list of network pre-orders for Samsung’s latest flagship handset, offering the device free on a pay monthly contract including 2GB mobile data per month.Vodafone’s tariff comes with a two-year minimum commitment and gives you 900 minutes, Unlimited texts and 2GB mobile data every month with a free 16GB Samsung Galaxy SIII smartphone. Pre-orders for the device will also get 100 music tracks free and the device should be available from May 29th.

As we reported, Vodafone have gained a month exclusive for the 32GB variant of the Galaxy S3 and if you want the higher memory, you’ll have to either pay £69 up front for the device on the tariff above, or pay £46 per month which gives you 1200 minutes, Unlimited texts and 2GB mobile data alongside a free 32GB Samsung Galaxy SIII. Vodafone will be stocking both the Pebble Blue and Marble White variants of the Galaxy S3 with both available at the end of the month.

Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update available

Samsung’s phablet, the Galaxy Note, has joined the ranks of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device, with the Premium Suite upgrade now rolling out to devices around the world.

The update brings Android 4.0 with TouchWiz alongside multimedia enhancements and more optimised applications for the Note’s S-Pen stylus. One of the new apps is S-Note, which was introduced alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 at Mobile World Congress 2012.

The update weighs in at a hefty 319MB and if you’re using a device from a network, you’ll have to wait for the network to release the update. The update is rolling out to sim-free devices at the moment and is being staggered, so it may not be available for your device yet.

Samsung Galaxy SIII to launch on Virgin Mobile

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy SIII smartphone, announced last Thursday at Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012 in London, will launch on UK MVNO Virgin Mobile in the summer, the company has confirmed.

Virgin are yet to reveal pricing for the device, but the smartphone is expected to land with special offers for Virgin Media customers, such as £5 monthly discount, extra allowance and 3,000 Virgin Mobile minutes.

Virgin Mobile will join Three, T-Mobile, O2, Orange and Vodafone as confirmed networks who will stock the device, whilst retailers Phones4u and Carphone Warehouse will also both stock the device at the end of the month.

Samsung Galaxy S III wireless charger delayed until September?

At Samsung’s Galaxy S III launch last Thursday, the Korean manufacturer made several mentions of the wireless “pebble-like” charger for its flagship smartphone.

The Galaxy S III is set to launch on May 29th and online retailer Mobile Fun has revealed that Samsung’s official wireless charger dock will not launch until September but the retailer is also “working hard to source an unofficial wireless charging dock, which will be available a lot sooner than the official Samsung one”.

Samsung is yet to confirm the official launch date for the official wireless charger whilst pricing on either the official or Mobile Fun’s unofficial dock is not known yet. We’ll let you know when more details are available.

Samsung Galaxy S3 exclusive London 2012 Olympics edition announced

Samsung touched on it without too much detail at last Thursday‘s Samsung Galaxy S3 launch and now Samsung and Visa have combined to confirm that a special edition Olympics 2012 Galaxy S3 is being produced. However, if you were thinking of picking one up, you won’t be able to as the Olympics edition is exclusively being given out to selected trialists and sponsored athletes.

Visa, one of the official sponsors of the London 2012 Olympic Games, will also be installing their Visa payWave NFC-based payment application on the Olympics device, allowing the device to make payments for goods and services up to £20 just by waving the phone in front of the contactless payment reader.

DJ Lee, executive vice president and head of Sales and Marketing for Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business, said:

“Mobile payment services enabled by NFC technology are gaining momentum around the world.”

“The Samsung Galaxy S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind and is the ideal device to showcase the ease and convenience of Visa’s mobile payment application at the London 2012 Olympic Games.”

Sandra Alzetta, senior vice president of Mobile at Visa Europe, added:

“The future is mobile and cash usage will only continue to decline as people use their mobile devices to manage their money, shop and pay.”

“This summer our partnership with Samsung will showcase all the advantages of the future of payments: security, convenience, speed and flexibility being forefront among them.”

NFC-based payments on the Galaxy S3 Olympics Edition will be made available through official bank of the Olympics, Lloyds TSB and any transactions over £20 will require entry of a passcode to prevent mis-use and fraud.

Smartphones dominate in the US

Latest research from market research firm Nielsen has shown that more than half (50.4%) of US mobile subscribers now own a smartphone, following an increase from December 2011 (47.8%).

Smartphone penetration continued to dominate the key US market, with Apple being called the top manufacturer whilst Android was touted as the top platform. Nokia’s Lumia 900, released in the US last month, has continued to do well and capture consumers’ imagination, whilst the Windows Phone platform only captured 1.7% market share in Q1 2012 (even Windows Mobile, the older version of the platform, had a higher market share at 4.1%).

During Q1 2012, 48% of smartphones ran Android, whilst iOS captured 32% market share and RIM’s fledgling BlackBerry platform came in at a healthy 11.6% market share.

Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB exclusive to Vodafone UK

Vodafone UK have secured an exclusive deal on the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S3 with plans to launch the device on May 30th.

Samsung’s Galaxy S3, unveiled last Thursday, will be available in the same three memory sizes as Apple’s iPhone 4S (16GB, 32GB, 64GB) and Vodafone will stock the 32GB exclusively for the first month whilst also making the 16GB variant available at launch as well.

Vodafone is yet to unveil their pricing for Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone but the Galaxy S3 is also the Official smartphone of the London 2012 Olympics and all networks will be aiming to make their prices as competitive as possible.

Samsung Galaxy S3 India release date revealed

Last Thursday, Samsung unveiled their latest Galaxy S3 flagship smartphone at Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012. It was Samsung’s biggest ever smartphone launch and as part of the launch, the Korean company, who recently took the number one global mobile phone and smartphone manufacturer spots, revealed the device was headed to Europe on May 29th.

News has now reached us that the device is also headed globally just a few days after, with New Delhi Television reporting that the Galaxy S3 will launch in India in the first week of June. Samsung’s flagship smartphone is not expected to be cheap however, with a suggest retail price of 38,000 INR ($716, £445) whilst the street price is expected to come in at 34,000 INR ($640, £400).

Samsung overtakes Apple in German market

The latest Samsung devices were really amazing and the hype about the Galaxy S3 was unbelievable, that mirrors now in the numbers that have been released today: samsung surpasses apple with 2 percent . So that now Samsung leads in Germany with 24% , second is Apple with 22% , Nokia , who were leading in 2010 with 41%, are now on third place with 21,6% , last but not least is RIM with 2,8% .

Overall Smartphones are dominant in Germany, 18 million Smartphones stand against 8 million “classic” cellphones.

I wonder how this all will change in the next few years, how far nokia will drop , if apple can make it back to the top , or if a new challenger will appear, but those questions will be answered in the Future.

Apple iPhone winning battle versus Android gamers

There is no denying that mobile gaming is most definitely on the up and a new study has found that between iOS and Android, mobile gaming is worth up to five times more on Apple’s iPhone versus the spate of Android devices.

The study was conducted by research firm Newzoo, who looked at data from iOS and Android and conducted a survey amongst 17,000 people. Some of the data found by the company includes 28% of smartphone gaming takes place on an iPhone whilst 60% of tablet gaming takes place on an iPad. The most interesting fact is that 91% of all mobile gaming revenue comes from in-app purchases whilst only 9% comes from the actual cost of the game.

Newzoo CEO, Peter Warmam, attributes the success of iOS to the in-app purchase experience:

When analyzing Apple’s successful monetization, there is one dominant factor outside of differences in audience demographics and preferences: Apple requires users to connect their credit card information directly to their account, thus creating a seamless purchase experience.”

Galaxy Note, Ice Cream Sandwich Gets CyanogenMod9

Samsung Galaxy S3 Pop Up Play demo

As part of the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 at Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012 on Thursday evening in London, the Korean manufacturer unveiled its Pop Up Play feature, which brings the “cards”-like UI from RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook to the Android Galaxy range.

Pop Up Play takes full advantage of the Galaxy S3‘s stellar specs list and offers multitasking in a whole new way. As you saw, with Pop Up Play, you can continue watching a playing movie in a pop up window whilst replying to an email or using other features of the device.

Samsung Galaxy S3 S-Voice Demo

At Thursday’s Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012, we went hands on with the freshly announced Galaxy S3 and Mike from Samsung kindly agreed to give us a demo of the smartphone’s voice recognition feature, S-Voice.

S-Voice can be used to wake up your device, open apps, set appointments, alarms and a lot more and gains its roots from the Apple’s similar feature, Siri on the iPhone 4S.

Here, Mike Taylor, a part-time Samsung Mobiler, gives us a quick run-through on S-Voice.

The Samsung Galaxy S III: Disappointed

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was announced several days ago. The wait had taken a while since people had expected it to be announced at the Mobile World Congress held earlier this year in February.

Samsung made an announcement to say that the Galaxy S3 would not be announced at Mobile World Congress leaving the industry and consumer to speculate on its next day and what its hardware will contain.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 finally unveiled has created a few avenues of conversation over the past few days, mainly if the worth for the new Galaxy S3 were what we were waiting for or whether it could have been so much more.

Samsung Mandel leaks, Windows Phone powered

We heard of the Samsung Mandel in late 2011 and today the rarely seen LTE smartphone has made a second appearance. The rear of the device looks suspiciously like the rear of the white Samsung Galaxy S3, launched yesterday evening.

There have been rumours that Samsung was preparing a Windows Phone powered version of their latest flagship and it now looks like the Samsung Mandel could fit the bill.

No information is known on announcement, pricing or availability and naturally we’ll update you if we hear anything.

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X

At last night’s Samsung Galaxy S3 launch in London, we managed to get some hands on time with the smartphone and whilst also snapping away at Samsung’s latest answer to the iPhone, we also put it up against HTC’s latest flagship smartphone, the One X, which brings a polycarbonate unibody design to a high-end smartphone.

Both devices feature 720p HD displays with the One X sporting a 4.7 inch screen and the Galaxy S3 a 4.8 inch screen. Both run Android Ice Cream Sandwich with quad-core processors, 1GB RAM and 8 megapixel cameras. We’ll be focusing on comparing every aspect of these two devices side by side but for now, we’re taking a look at the design of them.

The One X has a really nice feel to the rear of the device, whilst to be completely honest the Galaxy S3 just feels cheap and plastic, much like the original Galaxy S. However, on the flip side, the Galaxy S3 definitely feels faster and smoother to use, but you do lose HTC’s excellent Sense UI.

Both devices are set to go head to head over the coming months but with a stylish design, better build and feel and Beats Audio integration, the One X will definitely stand up to the Galaxy S3. Samsung’s overall brand, which recently became the number one global manufacturer of mobile phones (toppling Nokia) and smartphones (toppling Apple), will prove to be key as the company throws a massive marketing campaign behind the device to build on the popularity of the Samsung Galaxy S2.

A quick note: a lot of the pictures were too dark to be uploaded as the lighting wasn’t adequate on the demo floor last night.

Samsung Galaxy S3 S-Voice hands on

One of the features making its debut with Samsung’s new Galaxy S3 smartphone is the Korean manufacturer’s voice recognition and control software, aptly named S-Voice. Designed to be a direct competitor to Apple’s Siri software on the iPhone 4S, Samsung’s S-Voice goes further and offers full voice control on the device, including non-native apps such as Dropbox.

We went hands on with the Galaxy S3 and S-Voice at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012 event in London yesterday evening and here’s S-Voice in the flesh. (This demo hasn’t turned out too well due to the background noise, however we’ve got another video up shortly that shows off S-Voice in less noisy conditions.

S-Voice definitely has potential and Samsung have done really well with the software. As were surrounded by a lot of people, S-Voice didn’t perform too well to begin with but it definitely is impressive, with my favourite feature being the ability to launch non-native applications.

I definitely think Apple need to improve Siri before the launch of the next iPhone, because the way things stand, S-Voice outperforms Siri.

Samsung Galaxy S3 network info round-up

Officially unveiled yesterday evening by Samsung in London, the Galaxy S3 is this year’s hottest smartphone and looks set to go head to head with the Apple iPhone 5. We’ve already heard that O2 and Vodafone are getting the device, and now the three remaining major UK networks have all indicated they are getting the device.

Featuring a 4.8 inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display and a quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos CPU, the Galaxy S3 comes equipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and several exclusive features such as S-Voice (Samsung’s answer to Siri), S-Beam (file transfer through NFC) and a display that sleeps when you do and wakes when you’re using it. Orange UK, T-Mobile UK and Three UK are all expected to get release the device on or around May 30th, and Three have unveiled a very competitive contract plan for the Galaxy S3. The smartphone will be available free on a £34 per month two-year contract on Three’s “The One Plan” which gives you 2000 UK minutes, 5000 texts, 5000 ’3-to-3′ minutes and All You Can Eat data every month.

Three’s Galaxy S3 offer is available to pre-order is available here, whilst Orange and T-Mobile have not put up info on their website as yet. Customers wanting the Galaxy S3 on O2 can be kept up to date by texting Samsung to 2020 whilst Vodafone customers need to register their interest here.

Samsung Galaxy S3 sim-free price revealed

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S3 last night in London and it is now available for sim-free pre-order through online retailer Clove.

Featuring a 4.8inch Super AMOLED 720p HD display, the Galaxy S3 is powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz processor and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich coupled with Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface.

It has 8 megapixel autofocus camera with 1080p HD video capture and Zero Shutter alongside a 1.9MP front facing camera with 720p HD video recording. You can see the whole top of the range specs list here.

The Galaxy S3 will be available in either Pebble Blue or Marble White colour (see our Galaxy S3 hands on) and will cost £458.33 (£549.99 inc VAT) with the device expected to be launched on May 30th.

Last night Samsung launched the Galaxy SIII, their latest entry into the Android world with a specific focus on tackling Apple’s iPhone. It was most definitely the biggest Samsung smartphone launch ever (and one of the biggest of all times) as 2,500 people swooped upon Earls Court in London to watch as Samsung unveiled all.

Featuring a 4.8 inch 720p Super AMOLED HD display, a 8 megapixel camera and quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos CPU the Galaxy SIII also comes equipped with several Galaxy SIII exclusive features (for now) including S-Voice, S-Beam and Popup Play.
