Blackberry Apollo Curve revealed; big upgrade to the Curve series

| January 13, 2011 | 1 Comment

RIM’s current base BlackBerry model is their 8520 and it really is targetted as being cheap and cheerful; available for around £130 in the UK, it is meant to attract customers from the low end user market. Now the BlackBerry Apollo Curve has been revealed by BGR, it might be time to start saving.

The Apollo Curve is a massive upgrade to the original specs of the BlackBerry 8520 with the screen set to be 480 x 360 pixels, the camera being upgraded from 2MP no flash to 5MP with flash, Quad-Band (vs dual-band) and 3G functionality (vs non-3G). The device is even NFC capable!

Here’s a quick run down of specs; hit the source link for more info:

  • Quad-Band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA
  • Bluetooth 2.1 (A2DP capable?)
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, NFC
  • 512MB eMMC (available should be around 200MB – plenty for apps)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 5-megapixel camera with flash – not known whether fixed focus or autofocus
  • HVGA 480 x 360 display
  • 1050 mAh (potential battery issues?)
  • Tavor MG-1 800MHz CPU
  • BlackBerry OS 6.1
  • 11mm thin (almost as thin as the current Apple iPhone 4)

So will you buy this? Do you own a BlackBerry and is this something that’ll make you change your current device? Let us know in the comments!!
