How to: Check if CarrierIQ is installed on your phone
In case you missed it over the last few days, the name CarrierIQ became the buzzword on the web after it was revealed the pre-installed software logging tool could be sending user personal data to CarrierIQ’s servers.
It’s been confirmed that it runs on Android devices as well as some BlackBerry and iPhone devices; you can see our CarrierIQ coverage here.
To check if CarrierIQ has been installed on your Android device, you can download the Carrier IQ Finder app from the Android Market for free. Open the app once installed and you’ll know pretty much straight away if Carrier IQ is installed on your phone or not.
Unfortunately, at the moment there’s not much you can do about removing Carrier IQ from your phone; the only ways to remove it from an Android device involve rooting (or jailbreaking) the device which can be a daunting process and may void your device’s warranty.
