Intel to discontinue MeeGo development temporarily?

by Nirave3 September 2011

The Nokia N9 - the first device running the MeeGo OS

Rumour has it that Intel will be temporarily discontinuing development of MeeGo, a direct consequence of Nokia’s decision to abandon it as the Finnish company’s primary OS, and this could be the beginning of the end for the weakened platform.

Intel, like most companies in their position, have denied the rumours but 2 and a half years after the partnership with Intel and Nokia led to the creation of the MeeGo OS, we’ve only seen one consumer device and one developer device released.

Rumour also has it that Intel will drop their Software / OS ambitions in order to concentrate on their hardware business and whether Intel drop MeeGo or not, the writing seems to be on the wall for the quirky OS.
