Nokia VP of MeeGo Devices, Ari Jaaksi Quits

by Nirave5 October 2010

Nokia are having a tough time of it lately! Firstly, their reknown former CEO, Olli Pekka Kalasvuo, left the company to be replaced by Stephen Elop, the former head of Business for Microsoft. Then, the ever popular Anssi Vanjoki, also announced he was leaving. Today, Nokia’s former Vice President of MeeGo Devices, Ari Jaaksi announced he would also be leaving the Finnish manufacturer.

We can’t help but feel that the timings of all of these announcement is just plain wrong. With one of their most important annual Nokia World conferences having just finished, people are not left thinking of the handsets and services Nokia announced, but the people who have left and the direction in which the company will be heading.

For Nokia, their MeeGo OS needs to be a success for the company to regain share taken in the high-end smartphone sector, and their VP of MeeGo devices leaving before even the first handset has been announced and released does not inspire confidence in the platform.

Prior to Nokia World, the first MeeGo device (the N9), was rumoured to be announced during Nokia World; that was subsequently found to be not true and who knows when we will see the first MeeGo device. We can all hope that Nokia get it up to shape and first, if they are to meet their goal of releasing the first MeeGo handset by the end of 2010.
